[moonv6] E-security infrastructure pape and risk assessment

From: Bound, Jim (jim.bound@hp.com)
Date: 07/22/04

See attached documents. They are very good, in depth, and useful for IPv6. Tom Kellermann one of the authors is supportive of the IPv6 Forum and NAv6TF to assist us to spread the IPv6 message, and what is required within the enterprise for e-security. The e-security requirements are needed by all deployments is my view. I have asked Tom if he can speak at our Nov 2004 North American IPv6 Technologists Seminar on Nov 17th in the Washington D.C or Arlington area, and Tom's perspective is International.

As you all know I have a strong view that honor is imperative with our efforts. This is extremely true for security and we must never oversell what IPv6 can do to support a more secure infrastructure and trust model from the return to the E2E trust model for communications, nor should we undersell it either. A security model based entirely on a soft chewy center at potential single points of failure is not acceptable as the only model for the next generation IPv6 Internet that does have the potential of restoring the E2E Internet model for all.
